Hell and Back decontamination routine

Hell and Back decontamination routine

After a fire, showering isn't just about getting rid of the smell of smoke. Soot, dust and contaminants can stay on your skin and in your hair long after the incident. The sooner you remove them, the better. That's why we selected the Hell and Back routine: three complementary products designed to cleanse, exfoliate and moisturise your skin after exposure, to use straight away at the station when you get back from a call, or at home.

On the job and at the station

The routine has three simple steps. First, the face and body cleanser washes your skin, hair and scalp and helps unclog pores. Its activated charcoal formula is designed to trap impurities and give a purifying effect. Use it in the shower on wet skin, focusing on the most exposed areas: face, neck, back of the neck, jawline, behind the ears, inner elbows, armpits, groin and between the thighs.

The second step is the exfoliator. Also made with activated charcoal, it removes impurities from the skin more deeply. Use it after cleansing, with circular movements over the main exposed areas, then rinse thoroughly.

Finally, once your skin is clean and dry, the moisturiser completes the routine. It hydrates, soothes the skin and absorbs quickly without leaving a greasy feel. This last step is especially important after exfoliating, to limit irritation and restore skin comfort.

The standout feature:

A complete routine built on a very simple principle: cleanse, exfoliate, moisturise.

The cleanser can be used after every exposure or daily. The exfoliator can follow cleansing after an exposure or be used once or twice a week, while the moisturiser can be applied after every exfoliation and as often as needed.

All three products have a bergamot scent and suit all skin types. The cleanser comes in a 300 ml bottle and the exfoliator in a 200 ml tub, with formulas that combine activated charcoal, aloe vera and vitamin E, depending on the product.

Why we put it in this box

Because our exposure doesn't end when the helmet goes back on the appliance. After a fire or a day in contact with contaminants, personal hygiene is one of the simple habits to build in as soon as you're back at the station.

With Hell and Back, there's no need to pile up products or wonder what to use: all three steps come together in one routine, with one product to cleanse, one to work more deeply and one to moisturise.

An easy routine to keep in your locker or duty bag and use straight after a call, but also at home every day.

EDDING: red marking chalk

On a call, information has to be passed on quickly and stay visible. A cut zone to mark, a power source to flag on a vehicle, a note to leave on a door during a search: EDDING red marking chalk fits into those simple actions that make the job easier on scene. At vehicle extrications and structure fires alike, it lets you leave a marker exactly where your crewmates need it.

On the job and in drills

At an extrication, it lets you mark the cut zones chosen after the vehicle survey and identification of hazards. It can also be used to write the type of fuel or power source identified on the vehicle, or to flag a no-cut zone. Notes that back up communication between the crew and the crew commander, and make instructions visible right where the work is happening.

At a structure fire, it can be used to mark apartment doors during search, following your service's marking codes and procedures. The goal: to let the crews behind you find useful information on the spot.

It's also useful in training: marking cut points on a training vehicle, numbering the vehicles in a scenario or highlighting points to discuss during the debrief.

The standout feature:

Being able to leave a note directly on the area concerned. An instruction given over the radio or face to face can be backed up by a visual marker, as long as the surface and contrast make it clearly readable.

Marking supports a decision made by the crew: it doesn't replace the survey, hazard identification or passing on instructions. With shared codes, it becomes a practical tool for coordinating the work.

Why we put it in this box

Because the most useful accessories aren't always the biggest. This marking chalk meets a real need: marking, flagging and passing on information on scene. From extrications to searches and drills, it can quickly become part of your routine.
